Reading Comprehension

Here’s a new reading comprehension passage for you, designed for Class 7 students:

The Magic of the Stars

Stars have fascinated humans for centuries. On clear nights, when the sky is free from clouds, the stars shine brightly above us. Some stars appear to twinkle, while others shine steadily. People have always looked at the stars and wondered about their mysteries. Ancient civilizations used the stars to navigate and tell time. In fact, the constellations, or patterns of stars, are still used today to guide travellers and help us understand the universe.

The stars are far away from Earth, and they come in different sizes and colors. Some are so far away that their light takes millions of years to reach us! The brightest stars in the sky are often red, blue, or white. These stars are very large, and they burn brightly. But not all stars are as large as they seem. Some are very small but shine just as brightly because they are closer to Earth.

Astronomers study the stars using special telescopes. These telescopes help us learn more about how stars form, live, and die. The study of stars has helped scientists understand the universe better, and many discoveries are still being made.

Questions:

  1. What do people do when the sky is clear at night?
  2. Why were stars important to ancient civilizations?
  3. How do stars differ in size and color?
  4. What do astronomers use to study stars?
  5. What has the study of stars helped scientists learn about?
  6. Find two adjectives that describe the stars.
